Often there is query from expected mothers regarding vaccination like is it safe to have vaccines during pregnancy, what are different vaccine that needs to be taken and what is right time to get vaccinated. This vaccinations during pregnancy help protect both the mother and her baby. It helps to maximize the maternal antibody response and passive antibody transfer to the infant.

Preferred time for vaccination is before you actually planning your pregnancy. General vaccines before & during pregnancy includes flu vaccine, Hepatitis vaccine, cervical cancer vaccine, Rubella / MMR vaccine, tetanus vaccine, chicken pox vaccine etc.

HPV vaccine can prevent most cases of cervical cancer if the vaccine is given before girls or women are exposed to the virus. This vaccine can also prevent vaginal and vulvar cancer. India accounts for nearly one-third of the global cervical cancer deaths. Every fifth person suffering from cervical cancer in world is an Indian.

Cervical cancer is the only gynecologic cancer that can be detected by the Pap test. The Pap test effectively detects pre-cancerous changes to the cervical cells and detects cervical cancer earlier, when it’s highly treatable. Smoking and long term use of oral contraceptive increases risk of cervical cancer. Women with a sister or mother who had cervical cancer are two to three times more likely to develop the disease. Talk to your doctor if you have a family history of cervical cancer.
